GUAGUA PICHINCHA VOLCANO 4.784MTS

guag summit

Guagua Pichincha is the most active volcano in the western Ecuadorian range; it has fumaroles and sporadic ash emissions and near the craters has hot springs. The Guagua Pichincha has two large craters, one inside the other, which is the result of its eruptions. In October 1999 a major eruption of the volcano left the capital covered in ash.

Guagua Pichincha has become a popular place to acclimatize before attempting any of Ecuador's high snow-capped peaks because of its altitude, location and refuge.

After breakfast, we depart for a short car drive from the hotel to the slopes of Guagua Pichincha. The Summit is reached in approximately 4 hours on a steady hill climb. The views of Quito from the summit are spectacular. On the way, you can enjoy typical paramo vegetation. Lunch in the refuge and return to Quito in the afternoon.
